Badgerys Creek Airport
Recent planning schemes for SW Sydney have allowed for an Airport at Badgerys Creek.
The flight paths do not cross future development, and ‘minimise’ impact over existing suburbs – as best they can.
An area immediately adjacent to the airport has been set aside for airport facilities; air cargo, warehousing, offices and accommodation. (The accompanying diagram shows a conceptual design for the SW Sector; details have varied, the principles remain). Other large commercial areas were set-aside in the SW Sector that could now be reviewed as part of extending the opportunities for local employment arising from the airport.
An express rail connection to the airport was anticipated with a reservation between Leppington Station and the Airport and the potential to widen the reservation from Leppington to Glenfield to accommodate 4 tracks. The Express would then share with the Express line from East Hills. (The position on these alignments has not been checked 5/2/14).
Bus routes from the SW sector were planned to connect to the Facilities Area.
Considered but not included in the SW Sector, were rail connection to the north; towards St Marys and/or through Wetherill Park to the Bankstown Line. These could be High Speed Light Rail, or Metro and could also continue to Parramatta.
